Alacrity and GYBO will hire, train, mentor, and support students who are looking to become Ecommerce Advisors. Once training is complete, each Ecommerce Advisor will be deployed to support different BC Businesses; giving them a chance to practice their skill and gain tangible experience.

What training will I receive?

The Ecommerce Advisory Bootcamp is an overview course built for early-stage entrepreneurs, like yourself, looking to understand the fundamentals of Ecommerce; so you can begin your journey of building a digital-based company.

Within the course, you will be guided through the beginning stages of ideation, validating your business model, understanding the competitive landscape, to choosing your platform and systems involved in running an online storefront.

Upon completion, you should have a grasp of the ecosystem, systems, and competencies required to operate a successful Ecommerce store.

In addition to developing digital marketing skills, you will learn about the CDAP Stream 1 Business Program; a government grant available to businesses looking to boost their online sales. This includes it’s

Ecommerce Advisor Program - Eligibility & Expectations

Ecommerce Advisor applicants who have graduated from high school or are currently pursuing post-secondary education must meet all the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*, and your primary residence is located in BC
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Be available part-time for a maximum of 250 hours. Special arrangements are made for co-op students.
  • Complete the self-led training program with a minimum score of 80%.
  • Work with assigned businesses to review their current digital strategy, gather requirements, and provide a written recommendation.
  • Assist in the implementation or improvement of digital technologies.
  • Complete required reporting weekly and at the end of each assignment.

While our office hours are Monday to Friday 8 am – 4 pm, your work hours are quite flexible.

You will have to be available during these times for any scheduled meetings and to connect with the businesses at a time they are able to meet. Outside of that, you choose the times you need to work on your projects. 

Where do I apply?

Alacrity Canada acts as an intermediary for GYOB Program on behalf of the Canadian Government. Should you apply through us, we’ll be leading you through your studies.

How Does The Application Process Work?

Complete the online application demonstrating that you meet the eligibility criteria for Ecommerce Advisors.

Alacrity Canada will review submitted and complete applications against eligibility criteria. Applicants will be contacted within 2 weeks with an update of their application.

At final approval, an employee agreement will be issued to the applicant by Alacrity Canada for signatures.

You will complete a training program through Alacrity Canada to learn the Ecommerce and digital marketing skills required to support small businesses through a work placement.

Students will be assigned by the Alacrity Liaison to work directly with small businesses to assist them with their digital technology adoption.

You will have access to a dedicated Liason that will facilitate the connection with the assigned businesses. You also have access to an eCommerce expert for questions.

Because this is a government-funded grant program, provided you meet the requirements, we will not be interviewing you before you receive a contract.

  • High-Speed Internet connection
  • Desktop or laptop able to run recent versions of the operating system (Windows, MacOS) and productivity/ communication and collaboration software needed

We will adjust the total hours to meet the requirements for your CoOp program.

The training is self-directed and includes about 20 hours of content.

  • Understand the Grow Your Business Online Program, objectives of the program, eligibility requirements for businesses, eligible activities, and eligible & ineligible cost
  • Learn the capabilities of several e-commerce solutions and related tools: pros and cons of each solution when one solution may be better than another, etc.
  • Develop communication skills
  • Determine individual business needs and values

Yes, participants who complete the course requirements will receive a Certificate Of Completion

Yes, you will still complete the online training but you might be able to move faster than someone new to the subject.

Work hours will depend on the number of available businesses.

Yes, E-Commerce Advisors will be employed by Alacrity Canada at $20 per hour, for the duration of the training and the placement with any businesses up to the maximum work hours covered by the grant.

While our office hours are Monday to Friday 8 am – 4 pm, your work hours are quite flexible. You will have to be available during these times for any scheduled meetings and to connect with the businesses at a time they are able to meet.

Outside of that, you choose the times you need to work on your projects.

Ecommerce Advisors will be available, at no cost to the business, to review current digital strategy, review requirements, and provide a recommendation on strategies for digital marketing, social media, SEO, paid advertising, and analytics to help you determine the best options for the business.

Depending on the time spent with each business you work with until your maximum hours for the grant have been exhausted, on average between 8 – 10 businesses.

On average about 30 hours per business, this time will be spent on assessment, recommendation, and some implementation of the solutions.

Businesses can be located anywhere in B.C. Communication with the business will be via an email account that will be set up for you when you start your training. Voice or video meetings will be held via Google Meets.

All meetings should be virtual using the tools provided.
