In-Market Advisor - Consultant

About the Role

Alacrity Canada facilitates startup success and economic growth in the Canadian tech sector by providing resources, training, and mentorship to promising entrepreneurs. 

We are seeking a vibrant and organized individuals to join the global team as a Market Advisor for  various regions to support scale up companies in the Advanced Pathways for Export Program (APEX) program. The APEX program is designed for ambitious small- and medium-sized businesses ready to expand rapidly into international markets. APEX will prepare companies for diversified trade opportunities, strategic guidance  and provide personalized mentorship from industry experts and connections with global investors.This includes tailored mentorship, strategic guidance, and exclusive connections with international investors and partners.

As an In-Market Advisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping these companies’ export journeys as you support revenue generating and capital raising efforts in select foreign markets working with the Alacrity Foundation networks. You’ll provide data-driven insights, conduct deep market analysis, and identify real opportunities that can unlock growth. More than just research — you’ll advise companies on pricing strategies, positioning, and in-market customer engagement.  You’ll connect them to the right people, identify high-potential customers, and help founders navigate complex market dynamics.

The In-Market Advisor is responsible for providing strategic insights and recommendations based on market research and analysis. This role involves monitoring industry trends, evaluating market data, and advising on strategies to optimize business growth and profitability. We are looking for multiple In-Market Advisors specifically in: Mexico, India, UK, Europe, South East Asia, Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting, coordinating, organizing and planning of meetings, introductions, events, and logistics for exploration missions in the market including webinars with Alacrity Foundation.
  • Meeting and introducing program companies to the opportunities in target markets and assisting companies with responding to the opportunities for the APEX Program.
  • Assist program companies with the development of sales and/or marketing strategy and material for your regions in market opportunities.
  • Work with Alacrity network partners in promoting APEX companies and identifying potential revenue opportunities within your region.
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive dynamics.
  • Analyze data on consumer behavior, industry developments, and economic conditions.
  • Identify in-market consumer profiles, purchasing patterns, and regional customer needs to inform targeted strategies.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior management on market entry, expansion, and positioning.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, and product teams to align strategies with market realities in the respective market.
  • Actively build relationships with in-market partners, distributors, and trade contacts to unlock sales opportunities.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and strategic insights.
  • Monitor competitor activities and suggest tactics to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Advise on pricing strategies, customer segmentation, and product positioning.
  • Stay updated on global market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging tech.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven experience in international business development, export strategy, or cross-border sales.
  • Proven experience in market research, analysis, or strategic advisory roles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency with market research tools and data analysis software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of grant funding sources and application processes.
  • Familiarity with SaaS Products, Clean Technology, AI, Industrial Transformation and Cybersecurity/Big Data is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and evolving needs.

  • Supporting ventures with market research and validation
  • Helping ventures identify customers and in-market opportunities
  • Export access strategy and go-to-market support
  • Stewarding key partnerships and connections to investors
  • Sector-specific expertise (e.g., cleantech, circular economy, tourism, CPG)

  • Availability over the next 6–12 months
