Stationless bike-sharing service officially launch in Victoria
There’s a new way for residents and visitors to commute around greater Victoria. If your tight for time for meeting a friend or client, want to casually explore the city, or commute around the city – all you need is pocket change. With $1 you can meet your friend for coffee, arrive at meetings in fashion, get from downtown Victoria to James Bay, Beacon Hill, Vic West, Uptown, University of Victoria, and all the neighborhoods in between. A bike sharing service is long overdue for Victoria.
U-bicycle North America has officially launched the first stationless bike sharing platform in Victoria BC. 160 GPS enabled U-bicycles with self-locking smart technology have been distributed across the city to provide an innovative and convenient mode of transportation. U-bicycles unique model is unlike any other traditional bike sharing service. It requires no fixed bicycle racks, which allow users to park the bike anywhere legal and responsible. The bikes are environmentally friendly and safe as they are equipped with three-level speeds, a carbon belt drive system, and helmets.
“It was so cool to learn about the innovative U-bicycle Canada ‘no-docking required’ bike sharing service coming to #VictoriaBC – the first city in North America. Kudos to CEO Grace Min and her team!” says John Yap, BC Liberal MLA
Not only are Victoria residents excited about the arrival of U-bicycle in Victoria, but Alacrity’s Chairman, Owen Matthews, is very optimistic about the already-matured sharing economy in Canada. With the help of the Alacrity Canada’s global network, Alacrity helps local and international entrepreneurs to localize their products and technologies in these new markets. In the next phase, U-bicycle plans to cooperate with the local technology community to establish a Canadian technology R&D center; researching in areas such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and new technology.
How to use U-bicycle:
- Download the IOS or Android U-bicycle mobile app
- Locate a U-bicycle using the mobile app which displays all bikes around the city
- Scan the QR code on the bike to unlock the U-bicycle
- Ride the U-bicycle for as long as you need or want
- Park the U-bicycle in a proper area and manually lock the bike to end your trip automatically
The cost to use U-bicycle bike sharing service in Victoria is $1 CAD per every 30 minutes; no annual membership fee.
